Cairns & Port Douglas Wedding Photography – Stay tuned.
I don’t have any spare time at the moment, moving house, moving office. Albums to design, plenty of work to do. BUT the website is dated, I don’t love it anymore. So instead of sleep, I’m slowly plugging away at it.
The same but different is the way to go, a bit more info, MUCH better galleries and images, a new lease on life. Oh and this blog will no longer be hidden deep within it’s bowels , hopefully save me from the madness of talking to myself. ( I do wonder ?? If your out there say hi in the comments
)
Here’s a glimpse, but it will probably change, has about 4 times to date
oh and that image is a tasty little slideshow.

Port Douglas Wedding Photography specialize in lonely late night web design, but I leave the technical stuff to the team at Just Purple
The Port Douglas Sugar Wharf. Lights please !!
The Port Douglas Sugar Wharf. It’s a beautiful open air all weather sunset location, it’s big enough for a Greek wedding and it’s far, far to cheap. But when it get’s dark, it becomes really difficult to photograph and still retain the beautiful ambience that gives the place it’s character. Lanterns, Candles, Wall washes, Fairy lights all that stuff ( especially the candles and the lanterns ). LIGHT IT UP !!!… Please, Please, Please !!! it’s worth it.
I really don’t like flash in the face photography, its a weapon, but if I have to I will.

Wedding Photographer , Port Douglas, The Wedding of Varonika & Alvar
Like most Port Douglas locals Varonika & Alvar are from somewhere other than Port Douglas. They’re from Astonia, which I know nothing about but from what they told me it sounds like the opposite to hot and tropical.
They came into the gallery to see me around a year and a half ago planning a small wedding on four mile beach in Port Douglas. It was to be witnessed by only a handful of close friends that they had made in their short time here. No problem, we organized an elopement package with some extra time for portraits and off they went.
The wedding was lovely. They were married on four mile beach in the late afternoon under a hand made bamboo and chiffon gazebo, both dressed in white, the light soft. Being the personalities they are, the photographs are fun and beautiful, I love them.
It was a while ago though and the package being only a very small one, I didn’t get a proper chance to go through and have a good look at what we had taken. It wasn’t until last week while organizing some wedding images and galleries for my new website ( up soon ) that I was able to fully sort through their wedding. WOW !! I also took the time to play with some subtly different color processing- What do you think ?

Port Douglas Wedding Photographer – Renee & Todd
I’ve decided that rather than every wedding blog post being enormous and taking a full day ( sometimes two ) to layout, I’m gonna slip in a couple of shorties. I figure this way I can blog more often and show more of my beautiful wedding couples to the world. Fair all round !!
Meet Renee & Todd. They were married in Port Douglas by Natasha Kollosche in a Rex Smeal Park wedding ceremony. Some photography along the water front, beautiful light and the Sugar Wharf to ourselves, a rare treat these days.

Cairns & Port Douglas family portrait photography – The Turner Family
Family portrait photography is almost as simple as laughter. The Turners know how NOT to take themselves to seriously. We went to the beach they cuddled felt a bit awkward, laughed about it and I took some snaps. Great fun memories.

Port Douglas Photography.
For anybody who doesn’t already know Port Douglas Photography is no longer located in Macrossan st and as of mid January will be based out of Cairns. Lots of little reasons for this however none of them anything to do with how much we love Port Douglas. Living here for the past 9 years has been amazing. We started our Family and our business here so it will always be a very special place to us. I’ll still be shooting a lot of weddings and portraits up here so if you’re looking you’ll see me at Jai’s or Whileaway most Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings throughout the season and often with the kids once they build the bloody lagoon.

Laverne & John @ The Cairns Hilton Chapel
Yesterday I spent an hour with Laverne & John while they celebrated their ten year anniversary by renewing their wedding vows at the Blue Horizon Chapel in the grounds of the Cairns Hilton.
The ceremony was just the two of them holding hands and speaking to each other in Cantonese. I took photographs and Gina from South Pacific Bridal looked on. It went for about five minutes and even though I had no idea what they were saying you could feel the love. Laverne told me that it was a nice contrast to their actual wedding which was larger and quite traditional.
After the ceremony we stepped outside for half an hours worth of photo’s. It was midday in Cairns, blue sky hot with the sun directly overhead. Photographically speaking it was a challenge, the light couldn’t be harsher and at a worse angle. Off we went for a walk to find some nice spots close by. John was a trooper in his dark suit, did I mention the heat?
So anyway we took a whole bunch of nice shots over the course of the hour and plan to get a bunch more on Sunday afternoon when we trash Laverns dress.
Meanwhile, here’s some from yesterday. enjoy

I wasn't tired I was poisoned.
My darkroom ventilation was a crack of an opening in the window which wasn’t good, it stank and I use to fall asleep in there. Developing films in a tank on the laundry floor, one cat and dog, steaming the bathroom to settle the dust so I could dry film then having to clean it anyway, scratching the film, spotting the film, finally printing a masterpiece and then forgetting how I got there, toning, flattening and mounting. The process was a science but not a very exact one. Everything worthwhile ended up as a print and anything good ended up as folio, for a while. I did this for about ten years, it was more than a hobby, I loved it. I spent everything and never made a cent. If you look at the fine art section of my site, most of that is folio from the later of these years.
I found these old portraits last night. They are scans of matted fibre based prints complete with dust spots.
