I love shooting for me for no reason.

On my birthday this year the family went down to Cairns, not birthday related, we just needed to do Cairns things. I treated myself to a ride in the passenger seat on the way home with a few beers and camera on lap, it was twilight and the light was soft, then dark. The pics might look dark, but it wasn’t like that at all.
I love shooting for me for no reason.

Rex Smeal Park, Port Douglas

I shot some family portraits yesterday down at Rex Smeal Park and they went fantastically, the light was incredible – I’ll show you those later :) In the mean time, how about this view from the point !!! Port Douglas winter weather, tuning it on for the tourists.

Port Douglas Wedding Photography – texture

I’ve been playing around with the idea of adding texture to images, It’s a bit of a fad at the moment.  I like the effect but wouldn’t use it for every image. I’m a big believer in clean sharp images with bold but natural color. I think they have more of a timeless quality that dates better.  In saying that this textured effect has a fine art painterly quality that when used well and to a couples style, can really make certain images shine. What do you think?

oh he art of it all

I had some people from Murchison in the studio today for a peek which reminded me of this image. It was taken at “Days Mill” just out of Murchison in country Victoria close to where I grew up. I think I was 16 when I took this shot  19  friggin long years ago. I still remember laying In the grass on my belly with about 3 filters on the front of my lens not knowing what was causing the dark corners in the frame.  It was also my first sale, 300 bucks from the boys for the cover of Augie March’s first EP – “Thanks for the memes”

If you haven’t heared Augie check them out  there words and sounds  were definitely influence on my art in the early days here’s a link to a fav’    www.youtube.com/watch?v=fO5DFQoxnks  - copy and paste it if your interested enough

Port Douglas photography- for arts sake

So Along with shot of the week I think I’ll also throw in the odd piece of fine art photography just for balance.

Like it or not feel free to let me know, I’m impossible to offend.

Shot 1:-  Beach Thong – I have a whole series of these and other similar stuff which I’ll post at some stage. Nothing groundbreaking here,  I just really like the unique way things break down after spending their time in the ocean.
